Karthik heaps massive praise: Kolkata Knight Riders goalkeeper Dinesh Karthik praised teammate Nitish Rana for delivering a valuable shot during the 116 chases against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Dubai in 2021.
Rana struck after KKR dropped to 38 for 2 in the seventh round. He accompanied Shubman Gill to goal, who scored 57 of 51 balls. As Gill steered the ship with his powerful shots, Rana played a supporting role in front of his attacking partner. The latter scored 25 of 33 deliveries, including 3 limits as Kolkata beat Hyderabad with six wickets to keep their playoff hopes alive.

“I would give a lot of credit to Rana; he was playing second fiddle to Shubman. He realized that there was no point matching him shot for shot. Nitish took his time and then hit a couple of big hits. Fingers crossed for the next game,” Karthik said.
“I thought it was a real good game of cricket. At half time I knew it would be a tricky chase because the pitch was difficult. I was practicing a lot when I was doing commentary. It was just one of those days where I got lucky. This is not a game where you take the game deep. You create opportunities by using the crease and you play your shots,” he added.
It took KKR 116 to win in the 20 overs, but SRH’s pitchers kept Eoin Morganled‘s team fighting for the win. SRH fought hard to win, but the goal was always too small. In the end, Captain Morgan and Dinesh Karthik made sure KKR didn’t hiccup as the team chased after the goal with two balls to go.
Speaking to the announcers on the Postmatch show, Karthik praised the way Rana took his time and anchored the tickets, even after Gill lost his wicket.
Previously, an animated bowling performance by KKR limited the SRH to 115/8. With the exception of skipper Kane Williamson and Abdul Samad, no SRH hitter seemed comfortable on the court when KKR took control of a game he was supposed to win.
